Rescue

Sheltie rescue organizations take in abandoned, lost, and unwanted Shelties and attempt to find them new, loving homes. All rescue dogs are vet-checked, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered. Many are fostered in temporary homes, so each dog can be evaluated and the most appropriate permanent placement made. The goal is to find the right home for each dog regardless of the time it takes. A nominal adoption fee is charged for each dog.

A few rescue organizations work on a referral basis only, putting prospective owners in touch with the people or organizations that are housing the dogs.

All rescue dogs go to their new homes without AKC registration papers, but the owner can apply for a Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege (PAL/ILP) number, which allows the dog and owner to compete in all AKC companion and performance events, including obedience, rally, agility, and herding.

Sheltie rescue believes there is a loving home out there for every homeless Sheltie. Are you the right home? If you are a Sheltie fancier, please consider lending a hand. Please contact Dorothy Christiansen for information about how you can help.

Another way to support Sheltie rescue is to make a tax-deductible contribution to the ASSA rescue fund. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated. Please send your check, payable to the ASSA Foundation and notated with "Rescue Fund" in the memo area, to Dorothy Christiansen, P.O. Box 819, New Lenox, IL 60451.

Rescue has a new fund raiser! It is a beautiful Christmas ornament titled "Sheltie Angel" by Incolay. It is designed exclusively for the ASSA and its endorsed rescue groups. The ornament comes in a variety of colors and is pictured below. Click here for the brochure. For additional information or questions contact Darla Duffey.
Please allow three (3) weeks for delivery during the busy holiday season. To guarantee delivery by Christmas, all orders must be received by December 10th.

"Please note that the individuals and/or groups listed in the Rescue network of fanciers may, or may not be, members of the ASSA; but although the ASSA maintains this list as a public service, in no circumstance does the ASSA, its Member Club(s), individual members, or anyone connected to this web page and/or web site, guarantee or warrant the quality, health, or temperament of the dogs placed by rescue groups whether the rescue is a part of an ASSA member club or not."

We would like to say a special thank you to Kathy Cochran whose design of the limited edition ornament and arrangement with the producers brought in $1020.23 to National rescue and over $5000 to individual groups.

Almost every penny, dime or dollar raised or given to rescue goes directly to help Shelties. The only expenses are for stamps and office supplies. All workers are volunteers. Foster families are always needed. Thank you to ASSA for consistently supporting the work of its breed rescue, showing that all Shelties matter.
